I See Black People: Catherine Hughes

Born Catherine Elizabeth Woods, Cathy Hughes is the founder of Radio One with her husband. She was one of the founders of Radio One’s predecessor company in 1980. Since 1980, Ms. Hughes has worked in various capacities for Radio One including President, General Manager, General Sales Manager and talk show host She began her career in radio as General Sales Manager of WHUR-FM, the Howard University-owned, urban-contemporary radio station.

In 2004 Ms.Hughes and Radio One launched TV One,a national cable and satellite television network which bills itself as the "lifestyle and entertainment network for African-American adults." Ms.Hughes interviews prominent personalities, usually in the entertainment industry, for the network's talk program TV One on One.

Ms. Hughes was named "Entrepreneur of the Year" by Ernst and Young. Ms.Hugh also is a minority owner of BET industries.

Ms.Hughes stand out to me the most because she was a teenage mother who didn't let anything stop her dreams of owning g her own company. Many of us sate that because there is a child in vole they cant accomplish all that that went to in life. but if you look at Ms. Hughes she never used that excuse and always aimed higher for better success and didn't let her struggle with the company get the best of her.

News: In Memory of Rance"LJ" Slaughter

Rance Slaughter was a student at NCCU from fall 07 until spring 2010. On June 3, 2010 Rance was gunned down at in apartment complex in Greensboro,NC. Rance graduated from North Davidson High School in Winston-Salem NC were he played football and ran track. Rance was a fun energetic young man who loved sports, music and hanging with his friends.

The Central community that knew "Lj" said that he was always around making people laugh. Many say that he was known as the one the made the saying "Ya Digg Yeah" "Out Da Gate" and "Like Wat Up Doe" famous at NCCU.

Its sad to see another young male get taken by the hands of someone else,I want to send my condolence to his family and friends, and encourage others that violence is not the way to go, you can solve situation without the presence of a gun.

Rance 'LJ" Slaughter leaves behind his mother and stepfather, son, and other relatives and friends.
